FORMATS

Formats are regulatory documents issued to Ofcom licence holders that outline what is required of each radio station’s programming.

Regular traffic news and weather reports can be heard in our weekday breakfast and afternoon drive shows.

Magic 999 gives airtime and helps to raise money for our own charity Magic 999’s Cash For Kids.

PLAYLIST

Magic plays music predominantly from the 60’s and 70’s, with a small selection from the 1980’s

From the 60’s we play music from artists such as, Elvis Presley, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Diana Ross & The Supremes and The Beach Boys. From the 70’s we play music from ABBA, The Carpenters, The Drifters, Elton John, Queen and Simon & Garfunkel. From the 80’s we play music from Rod Stewart, Lionel Richie, Eurythmics and The Pointer Sisters.


OPERATIONAL INFORMATION

Transmission:

Magic 999 broadcasts on 999 kHz AM (Medium Wave) and DAB Digital Radio on the Preston and Blackpool Multiplex. Our coverage area is classified by Ofcom as Preston and Blackpool.

Automation:

Magic 999 automates some of its output using computer technology. There is however no automation during weekday daytime hours, apart from on significant public holidays.

Production:

All programming on Magic 999 between 6am and 10am (7 days a week) is produced and presented locally in our studios in Preston.

Outside of these times, most programming is produced for the Magic Network – North from our network centre in Newcastle upon Tyne, or on rare occasions when necessary some programmes are broadcast from our network studio in Manchester.


NEWS

Magic 999 provides local news and information from our own news team based in Preston on weekdays between 6am and 6.30pm inclusive, Saturdays from 7am to 1pm inclusive, and on Sundsy/bank holidays from 8am to 1pm inclusive.

Local news is broadcast on the hour from 06:00-18:00 Monday-Friday, 07:00-13:00 on Saturday and 08:00-13:00 on Sunday.

A national news bulletin from IRN is broadcast on the hour at all other times, except 19:00-21:00 on Saturdays.

Magic 999 does not run any extended news bulletins except under special circumstances.
